YA FANTASY BOOK BLITZ

Grit of Berth and Stone
by Lisa Dunn
Release Date: 03/17/15
Anaiah Press
256 pages

Summary from Goodreads:
Banished for a foolish mistake, sixteen-year-old Grit of Berth and Stone scorns the loss of her home, her honor, and her only ally. Only the weak worry about such things.

But war is brewing all across Chasmaria, and as a group of rebels pull Grit into their ranks, she begins to question what strength, courage, and honor really look like. When faced with a horrible truth about herself, Grit must either fight her way back to Thresh or live with the blood of the innocent on her hands.

Excerpt:
Grit swirled the cider in her mug while the bartender filled mugs for other customers. A dameling, perhaps sixteen or seventeen years of age, slid onto the stool on the other side of Grit. The dameling’s long, golden curls were tied back with a bright pink ribbon. Clear blue eyes and delicate pink lips adorned her round, youthful face.
“May I have a juice, barkeep?” Her voice was as innocent as her smile. She took her mug of juice from the barkeep and turned to Grit. Her eyes widened in amazement when she saw Grit’s pearl. “What is that round your neck?”
Grit took a swig of cider. “It’s a pearl.”
“Where did you get it?” The girl squinted for a closer look at the orb.
Remembering Dagger’s warning to reveal nothing of herself, Grit straightened her back and chose her words carefully. “An ally gave it to me as security for a future service.”
The girl sat back, her pink lips drawn into a frown. “It must be quite a service for your ally to have given you such a magnificent pledge.”
“It’s nothing much.” Grit shrugged her shoulders and stared into her mug. Eventually, the girl would have to lose interest in the pearl.
The girl leaned closer. “Its surface looks so smooth.” Her voice cracked as she reached a hand out to touch Grit’s pearl.

http://www.fireandicebooktours.com/theunholy/

Thornton Berry Shire Press is proud (and sad) to be hosting the final book tour from Fire and Ice Virtual Book Tours…Shelly is a gem to work with.  And what a way to go…with an International Book Award Winner!   The Unholy, by Paul DeBlassie III is obviously not for our typical young adult audience here at TBS, however, we wanted to share a story based in the "New Age" genre of paranormal and see if you might be interested in something different…so, let us know what you think about The Unholy.  You'll get your chance to own a copy by adding your name to the rafflecopter at the bottom of this post, for a $25 GC.
So good luck and thx for stopping by TBS.

Set in the mystic land of Aztlan, “The Unholy” is a novel of destiny as healer and slayer. Excerpt:
Help me? Help yourself! Face what is yours to face,” Elizabeth hissed. She yanked the door open then forced it to slam behind her.
Claire stood still for a moment, feeling as if a tornado had swept through the room. Elizabeth’s demand had left her shaken. She drew a deep breath, then went to her desk and picked up her tea, noticing her trembling hands.
Turning toward the window, Claire saw a muscular orderly accompanying Elizabeth to the locked ward at the far end of the hospital compound. A flock of crows circled high overhead, seeming to follow the two receding figures. As they arrived at the outer doors of the locked unit, the orderly reached for his keys. The crows circled while the two crossed the threshold of the unit, Elizabeth suddenly pausing, turning, and looking outside, her gaze riveted on the flock of birds.
All but two flew off, disappearing into the piƱon-covered hills. The two that remained came to rest on the red brick wall adjacent to the locked unit, their black eyes boring into Elizabeth. She looked panicked then enraged and, shaking a finger at the creatures, yelled something. Her frantic gestures told Claire that she was screeching curses to ward off evil.
Claire took a step back from the window, from the impact of Elizabeth’s rage.
The orderly grabbed Elizabeth roughly by the arm and pulled her inside.
The crows waited, watched, then flew away.

BOOK TWO IN THE ANNUM GUARD SERIES…REVIEW

Ahhhhhh!!!  It just stops!  Seriously, the book simply stops right at a twisty intriguing episode where you turn the page as quickly as you can and…what? that's it?…damn you Meredith!!

Well, she's done it again.  This book picks up exactly where the first one leaves us and doesn't let up for one moment….none of this disappointing lag, or loss of momentum second book let down sort of stuff.  She keeps the tempo top notch.

The writing is clever as well as informative…with some very interesting flipping in the re-telling of some monumental events in history….this is time travel at it's best.  Very well thought out.   The characters are well written and I simply adore the gutsy yet vulnerable lead character.  I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves a good paced, action, intrigue, young adult protagonist with a bit of smarts thrown in for good measure kind of story.

Here's a link to the cover and review we did of the first book The Eighth Guardian http://www.benjaminmctish.blogspot.com/2015/02/outstanding-read.html

And I'd advise you to click on both these links below and get on board with the Annum Guard Series

My Apologies

I just wanted to chime in here for a quick moment and extend my apology for the lapse in timely communications.  As anyone who follows knows, I keep fairly current on sharing as much as possible.

The past couple months my life has changed dramatically with the addition of my father in law…almost 96…moving into our home.  If anyone has taken care of an elderly, or someone who needed round the clock physical support, you know just how much energy this takes.  I gladly took on this challenge, along with my husband, and we are extremely grateful we were able to give our father this loving care.

Unfortunately, he passed, very unexpectedly,  last week, and has left us in sheer shock with a tremendous feeling of loss.   We are attempting to put our feelings of "what do we do now with our time?" and the lonely days in order now. The silence is deafening…. Family has come and gone with the last of them as of today, and we feel the quiet profoundly!

Please bare with me as I regain my sense of daily work again over this coming month.  I am looking forward to sharing some new authors with you, along with updates on my own work.  My calendar will be full once again, so keep your eyes open for that update in the sidebar.

I thank all of you who follow along with us here at Thornton Berry Shire Press…June
